Class 1 Week 9 - Once you've had Vanilla...

Imagine you're at the eye Dr. and he asks you
1?

or 2?

I'm very happy with the Revisions suggested by my Mentor Don Kim
The funny part is I got the EXACT same notes earlier in the week when he
critiqued my Public Review on Tuesday. I took all his earlier notes but either didn't go far enough for some, or misunderstood what he was asking for.

Now I'll be building on a much stronger Blocking for this new week 9!

Thanks for watching. : )

Class 1 Week 8 - Wow, that's Strong Vanilla!

Hey there
Here's my "final" Vanilla Walk Blocking!

Planning for the walk
It was very challenging to edit the picture in photoshop  so that it showed clear enough to read.
My writing is still very messy even the bold contrast can only do so much.
But I'm very excited to be learning my way around Photoshop, it's been one of the best tools besides Maya that I've used in Animation Mentor.

STRENGTH POSE
PS the Rope was made in Photoshop.
I also took a big leap forward in terms of Rendering the pose

Strength Pose Planning Sketches
For the sketches what I learned form my critique was to develop every drawing. Even if the sketch has flaws doesn't mean you have to abandon the pose idea, just develop it, till it's as clear as can be.

For this pose I had a checklist in my head:
1) Severe Line of action
2) Straight limbs
3) Using head in the line of action

Thank for dropping in,
See you next week,
Max

Class 1 Week 8 - Yum...Vanilla

Time for a tasty animation treat, the Vanilla Walk Part 1

This week we are only assigned to complete the blocking of the Vanilla walk with includes the Keys and breakdown poses. All with "Stepped" tangents.

Here's the result of my first days work on blocking:

My concern is that my strides may be too wide, and it may bite me later on in the process once it comes time to animate.

ALSO:

PHYSICAL STRENGTH pose is this week and I've got a few sketches already done, and more development on the way.

Thanks for stopping by, see you soon,
Max

Class 1 Week 7 - Tailor

Here's my submitted shot for this weeks assignment.

along with this planning sketch:

And this revision of my pendulum swing:

This week we start on walks!
and our PHYSICAL STRENGTH pose.

On my AM Student page I was left some very great information from the Pratt Brothers that sadly I didn't notice soon enough so my shot doesn't have the benefit of the information, but I'll definitely be incorporating it into my revision.

Thanks for stopping by,
Max

Class 1, Week 7 - 3 Poses So Far.

Here's a retrospective of all my Stu Poses so far:

I see improvement, how about you?

More to come soon,

- Week 11: BALANCE

Thanks for looking in,
Max

Class 1, Week 5 - Squash and Stretch

Week 5- The Obstacle Course

The big challenge for me this week was staying inside the frame limit.
Also picking a course took some thought. We had 12 courses to choose from and they are all great. I met an AM Alumni Rene S. who told me they only had 3 or 4 courses when he was a student, doing this same assignment.

With the new character rigs becoming available to AM students this year, it's worth noting that AM is stil growing and continues to make large strides to provide every possible advantage to it's students.

I chose to keep my animation short and simple, demonstrating the squash and stretch involved with anticipation, impact, and bounces.

Thanks for dropping by, see you soon,
Max

PS I met Rene S. at a demo workshop of the new Sandi 3D/ hand drawn software. This is an amazing new product to keep an eye on for the future.

Here, watch a Sandde Demo. No 3D glasses provided, but believe me it works.

Class 1, Week 6 - Overlapping Action

Here's my pendulum swing from last week's assignment.

I'm working on a revision based on my Mentor's feedback and that should be up early next week if not sooner.

Thanks for stopping by, come visit again soon.
Max

PS I did this assignment while out of state at the American College Theater Festival (ACTF). There I participated in a production of Dog Sees God, workshops and saw many other shows.

Two very influential workshops were, the Art of Clown, and Mask as departure point.

I learned many things that could be applied to animation and whould like to write some articles about them. Those will be seen here as soon as I can get them written. Lots of great info out there.

Happy Animating,
: D

Class 1 Week 7 - computer crashes...

Computer Crash - Booo

Lost most of my past work in a computer crash about three weeks ago so my privious assignments will not reach this Blog.

Sad day.

However, with that behind me, I have more reason to post and make my work available so It has less chance of being totally lost.

The plan is to Post assignments at the same time, or shortly after, I submit them on the AM site.

Thank you for reading and talk to you soon,
Max

PS This week we're working with Tailor!
